Why he had to be encouraged
I think he had to encourage because if I were him I would fight for my tribe even if I was the only one left. His saying is prefect I will fight no more forever. His men fought for what was right even after they lost their land. I would like to see what happened after his death. If I had to pick family or death I would chose family. Little saying I will fight no more forever.

I Will Fight No More Forever
I think Chief Joseph should have been consoled. I think this because there were 3 American army’s coming after them. He might have tried to fight but they didn’t have horses, or blankets like the Americans. Chief Joseph’s father wanted him to lead the tribe to freedom but if he had kept going he would have led them to their death. In his speech he said, “My people, some of them have run away to the hills.” This means he doesn’t have much of an army to fight with. I think that encouragement would have been a bad idea. I think this because he may have been 40 miles away from Canada, but there were three American armies chasing them. They also would have to readapt to a new environment. This is why I think Chief Joseph should have been consoled. I Will Fight No More Forever. Opinion Paper
I think that Chief Joseph the II should be consoled because he’s been going through a lot of deaths of his tribe. Also, I think he should be consoled because most of his tribe and family is dead. He said, “I am tired of fighting. Our chiefs are dead. It is the young men who say yes or no. He who led the young men is dead. It is cold and we have no blankets. The little children are freezing to death. My people, some of them, have run away to the hills and have no blankets, no food. No one knows where they are perhaps freezing to death.” In his first sentence he said he was tired of fighting the Americans. If I had a tribe that was dying I would like to be consoled because I would be sad. If he went on more with his tribe they would have died on the way there. He would have wanted to be consoled there and it would have been harder to console him. I Will Fight No More Forever Opinion Piece
Chief Joseph should be encouraged to go on because then he could be at peace. Why I say this is because he was sad, he said, “My heart is sick and sad.” He would then do what his father would want. If he were consoled he would have to live on a reservation and he also would be depressed. I think if he were consoled he would turn very sad, but if he would continue then he would follow his heart. If he could have time to looked for his people he would have, “My people, some of them, have run away to the hills, no one knows where they are – perhaps freezing to death. I want to have time to look for my children and see how many I can find.” I think he was very sad for his tribe when he died. He should’ve had another chance. I think Chief Joseph should have been consoled. I think this because his warriors would be dead. His father was looking out for Joseph and his tribe. Also the feeling of depression made Joseph feel that he needed to be consoled. He needed to be consoled because his tribe and his warriors were dying. I will say they were close to Canada, but he said “Looking Glass is dead. Toohulhulsote is dead.” “And the old men are all dead.” The Americans had guns and all they had were arrows and wooden swords with sharp rocks on the tip. It wasn’t a fairy tale, they had to fight for their freedom, but in 1877 it was over, they surrendered. “From where the sun now stands, I will fight no more forever.” Chief Joseph didn’t want to let his father down, because his father was extolled about his tribe. So he tried to fight but he couldn’t. He knew that his father didn’t want him to kill his whole tribe in war, and be extinct. Chief Joseph and his father up above didn’t want to kill their tribe and have any more families’ dead and most of all the kids. He said “The little children are freezing to death.” DEATH! Even if they got to Canada (they were in Montana) Montana is 50 degrees on average. Joseph said this before they even got to Canada “I want to have time to look for my children and see how many I can find. Maybe I shall find them among the dead.” If Chief Joseph went on with the fight he would have a feeling of depression. So let’s say they win, 63 of them might survive, that would mean 368 died in battle. Chief Joseph would have a feeling of depression. He would know he failed his tribe. Like he said, “Hear me my Chiefs. I am tired. My heart is sick and sad.” He would know deep in his heart that he didn’t do all he could do for his tribe. I believe and you should believe that Chief Joseph did the right thing and needed to be consoled. I Will Fight No More Forever Opinion Piece
I think Chief Joseph should be consoled because his brothers died, his father died, most of his tribe was dead. So I just thought he was all alone and he had no more family alive to love him and hug him. Also everyone was going to die from freezing to death, hungry, and Chief Joseph could die of depression. “It is cold and we have no blankets. The little children are freezing to death”. He was worried about dying. He was scared thinking if he is going to make it to Canada. “Our chiefs are killed. Looking Glass is dead. Tooholhulsote is dead. The old men are all dead”. His people were just getting killed in battle and war trying to make it to Canada. Chief Joseph was getting to tired to go on but he went on. Chief Joseph was worried about the children out there starving to death, freezing to death. He said “I want to have time to look for my children and see how many I can find. Maybe I shall find them among the dead”. He kept thinking about his people and his family. Chief Joseph never made it to Canada but he tried his hardest and his best. I Will Fight No More Forever an Opinion Piece
I think Chief Joseph needed to be encouraged because if he fought more he would’ve made it to Canada. He could’ve made a shelter or tricked the Americans, maybe sneaking up on them or hide from them. He could have won the war by himself if he were more confident. If he did he would have made it and been free from the war. If they made it to Canada they would’ve went back to their lives, be free from war, no worry about Americans, and they could explore. Even though he didn’t have people he would fought and put an end to this war. He had no one after the war. He said, “I want to have time to look for my children and see how many I can find.” That is how it ended. We are not sure what did happen afterwards. Maybe he found his children, but I hope he found some so he is not alone. I Will Fight No More Forever Opinion Paper
I think Chief Joseph needed to be encouraged to go on. He was only forty miles from Canada and I think he could have made it. The tribe still had four hundred thirty-one men and with the right strategy could have gotten to Canada to be free from American troops. In his speech he said “Looking Glass is dead, Toohulhulsote is dead, He who led the young men is dead.” These three people fought and died for the Nez Perce’s freedom. I believe this could’ve been a reason to fight on for the Nez Perce’s freedom. Chief Joseph’s father wanted his people free. I believe his son could’ve fought with the remaining warriors to fight for their freedom. I Will Fight No More Forever
Opinion Paper I think that Chief Joseph needed to be consoled because he didn’t have a lot of supplies for any more wars. He was tired of his people and children being killed by the Americans. They would have all died because of three American armies. In sadness, he said that he was “sick and sad.” By saying this, he was sharing that he felt bad. The tribe also didn’t have any more energy to go to Canada and they wouldn’t have had a leader to lead the tribe. They were over powered by the Americans because Chief Joseph started off with 800 people, but then they lost half of their people. They also had no food or blankets to survive in the cold. If they had kept going, they could have died of starvation. I know this because their food supply was low. Chief Joseph needed to be consoled because he was losing everything that was important to him. By Luke Karsten I Can Fight No More Forever Opinion essay
I think Chief Joseph should be consoled. I chose consoled because if he would have kept going he would have died of hunger, depression, or battle. In my opinion it is much safer if they stop fighting. I also think he would have died. In his speech he states that “I am tired of fighting.” He also states that “the little children are freezing to death”. I think he wanted to be consoled because he said, “My heart is sick and sad.” I think when he spoke his speech he was hurting. It would make sense because, with some of his statements it would go together. For example, if he had to travel the rest of the way and then died who would people look up to? Not him. By: Lily Wood |
